Religious art collections in Neamt County

Neamt Monastery museum – The museum displays cult objects made out of precious metal, embroideries, fabrics, wood sculptures all made by the monks from the monastery or that were received as gifts over time from different rules. All these objects contain important historical information about our past and our traditions. Because of its wealth, Neamt Monastery was a target of many attacks. Despite the odds, the monastery survived and remained an important center of medieval culture that keeps in its museum an important part of our National Cultural Heritage.

“Stramosii” Museum of Ethnography from Borca commune

In Madei village from Borca commune was recently opened and Ethnographic Museum called “Stramosii”(The Ancestors) – a place dedicated to old traditions from Bistrita Valley. The exhibition of the museum is a testimony of the respect of the young generation to their parents and grandparents. Here, visitors can admire fabrics that used to decorate the interior of a traditional house, the folkloric traditional costume, objects made by local artisans that were used in daily jobs around the house or different celebrations or customs.

The local artisan Vasile Gaman from Vanatori-Neamt commune

The artisan Vasile Gaman was born in 1936 in Lunca village, Vanatori-Neamt commune. He graduated from the Art and Trades School from Targu Neamt in 1954 and he specialized in wood sculpting and carpentry. Vasile Gaman dedicated his entire life to his passion: giving shape to wood and creating objects that remind us of the past life from the Romanian villages.
His dedication and passion for his work was rewarded after a 40 years career with the membership of Traditional Art Academy from Romania and “Carmen Saeculare” Cultural and Art Center.
