Neamţ Fortress
A watchtower over River Neamţ valley, built under the rule of Petru I Muşat, the voivode whose main interest was to resist the Ottoman invasions. During the first stage of the fortress, a central fort was built protected by 12m-high and 2-3m-thickwalls. There was also a fountain in the centre of the premises. Neamţ Fortress is one of the main medieval monuments in Romania, located close to the high Pleşului Peak. In time, the fortress stood tall, watching over Moldova and Siret river valleys, but also over the gateway to Transylvania, becoming one of the major Fortress of Moldavia, because of the many works of consolidation conducted during the reign of Stephen the Great.
