Ceahlau Mountain never stops to surprise tourists no matter how many times you visit it. Each autumn the mountain displays a wonderful palette of colors that enchant the eye and the soul.
We decided to climb Ceahlau Mountain and to enjoy the last days of autumn. The road passes near Antonie Hermitage from Stanile Plane that we reached it by car. From here we took our photo cameras and walked to the top. I can’t imagine something more beautiful than an autumn walk through this mountain.

Ceahlau National Park has a surface of 7742,5 ha and it’s located in Neamt County. The park hosts many protected flower and animal species. The flora from Ceahlau Mountain has 1097 species and 206 sub-species that represent 30% of Romania’s flora and 60% from Neamt County flora. Also on Ceahlau Mountain there are 61 protected by law flower species.
Among the rare flower species from Ceahlau Mountain there are Leontopodium alpinum, Cypripedium calceolus, Nigritella nigra, N.rubra, Taxus baccata, Larix decidua ssp.carpatica, Trollius europaeus.

Ceahlau Mountain stands out among the surrounding mountains because of its unmistakable shape. This is the most interesting mountain area from the central part of the Eastern Carpathians. Izvorul Muntelui Lake that surrounds the mountain at the east and north together with Durau Resort contributes to the impressive image of Ceahlau Massif.

Ceahlau National Park was organized in 1955 as a protected area and its present days boundaries were marked in 2003. The maximum altitude on Ceahlau Mountain is on Ocolasul Mare Peak at 1907 m. The most visited and important peak of the mountain is Toaca Peak of 1904 m (mainly because Ocolasul Mare Peak is closed for the public). “Ocolasul Mare” Reservation has a surface of 186 ha.

Ceahlau National Park is located at about 10 km west from Bicaz and in this wonderful area you can find the Scientific Reservation “Polita cu Crini”. This place can be reached on the route Lutu Rosu that starts at Izvorul Muntelui Chalet. The location is a scientific reservation from 1941 and here you can see Larch trees of over 30 m high and 90 cm in diameter.

Among the protected areas from Ceahlau Mountain there are two nature monuments: Duruitoarea Waterfall and “Avenul Mare” (The Big Pothole). Duruitoarea Waterfall is one of the most visited places from the National Park Ceahlau. The access to the waterfall is made on the route marked with a red cross with a length of 7.5 km.
