Welcoming spring in Neamt

The tourists who come in Neamt at the end of March or even at the beginning of April will be surprised to see gardens decorated with trinkets (Romanian “mărţişoare”), in some places.
Mărţişor celebration (on March the 1st) is a rooted tradition in Neamț. The custom is more than 2000 years old.

No other occupation has ever built a greater social and spiritual bond like traditional weaving during winter. Even Ion Creangă, the storyteller, would engage as a child in such activities that he later recollected how “looms would rumble all over the village Humuleşti”. Feast of Whitsuntide in tradition of Neamt County

This year, we had at Whitsuntide, again a mini-vacation over three days, between 30th of May to 1st of June.
Whitsuntide, the feast dedicated to the cult of the dead, is taken over from Romans by Dacians. Once they have converted to Christianity, our ancestors celebrated – The Descent of the Holy Spirit – which falls just ten days after Ascension and 50 days after Easter. Over the centuries, the two holidays were merged into one. The feast is celebrated on Sunday. Saturday morning, day called The Big Old Men, are commemorated the dead.

Craftsman Constantin Lungu

Artisan Constantin Lungu, president of the Association of Craftsmen in Neamt County, has the workshop in Humuleşti near Targu Neamt. Specialized in wood carving, he works sticks, sheepfold rods and clubs, hatchets of elderberry wood and hazel wood, some inlaid, some tin-plated at the end of which are carved various images of men depicting shepherds guarding their flocks of sheep. Alongside these, we discover in his workshop beautiful chests, crafted clad in tin foil in which are inlaid traditional symbols, the sun and the cross. Master confesses that realization of such objects …
