Natural Sciences Museum of Piatra Neamt
The birth certificate of the current museum was signed on September 1st, 1960, when was founded the Natural Sciences Department, in the Museum of Archaeology of Piatra Neamt, in the property donated by Iulian Antonescu on Petru Rares Street, no.26.
But, on November 15th, 1969, after a hard work of gathering and classification of the collections, organizing the fund of pieces and exhibits, on the dioramas and bio-groups, takes place the opening to the great public of the permanent exhibition of the Natural Sciences Museum of Piatra Neamt.
The exhibition is a monographic presentation of the entire territory of Neamț County from geological, palaeontological, ecological, floristic and faunistic point of view. Currently, the Museum has approximately 40,000 pieces from the collections of fauna and a Fund of over 10,000 sheets of Herbarium from the collections of flora. Also, in the Museum is a collection of fossil fishes, from the Oligocene, with numerous holotypes, over 600 fossils specimen of which 31 are new species, unique in the world, but also rare exhibits from geology, fauna and flora of the Neamt Mountains, from the Mesozoic and Neozoic era. If we add that in the Museum from Piatra Neamț, the scientific collections of Mineralogy and Petrography, palaeontology, botany and zoology comprise over 45 thousand copies, we hope that we have aroused your interest to visit and listen to explanations of the guide that will accompany you.
You will learn what seas dominated over this land millions of years ago over, what species of fish was living in those waters, how high the mountains were and what kind of animals lived back then, and many, many others.
Visitation schedule is from Monday to Friday from 10:00-18:00; Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 16: 00. The price of a ticket is 4.00 lei for adults, 2 lei for students and pupils, and the shooting fee is 10 lei.. Brochures and leaflets are free of charge!
