The beginnings of the religious life in Neamt County
The entire Neamt County area hosts numerous religious settlements that pilgrims know little about their beginnings. Here some of these places:
Neamt Monatery is considered to be the oldest religious settlement in Moldova region. Early documents talk about monks in this place since the XII century.
Horaicioara Monastery was built in XVII century because of some monks from these parts that decided to go and live deep in the mountains of Horaiciorul. Here they built a church with the patron of “Good News”.
Almas Monastery was built in XVII century on Almas Valley, a valley located at just few km from Horaicioara Monastery. The church was built by a man from Ardeal region, by his name Almas.
Beginning of the religious life in Neamt County
The hermitage from Cuejdi Valley is the place where some nuns made a hermitage around the half of the XVII century.
Bistrita Monastery dates from the half of the XIV century when a group of monks built a church here with the patron of “The Departure of St Mary”.
Bisericani Monastery was built at the beginning of the XV century and is well known for the religious life of some of its monks like the St Iosif and his 17 apprentices or St Chiriac. This religious settlement lived by the rule of life called “achimita” which means without-sleep.
Tazlau Monastery dates from the XIV century when some monks came and stayed and prayed on Nechit Creek and Tazlau Creek. The church was built in 1487 by the ruler Stefan cel Mare and the patron is “The Birth of St Marry”.
Nechit Monastery was built in the XVII century by the monk Nichita and is located near Tazlau Monastery. The church was made of wood and has the patron of “St Nicolae”.
Tarcau Monastery was built in the XVII century on Tarcau Valley by the monk Irinarh that came from Neamt Monastery together with his apprentices. The church was made of wood and built in 1833 by Avramie with the patron of “All Saints”.
