Short description
The history museum from Piatra Neamt was founded in 1934 by the priest Constantin Matasa (1878 – 1971). This was the first museum exclusively dedicated to archeology from the Moldavia region in Romania. In the beginning the museum was located in the National House Queen Mary, then it was moved in a room from School number 1 and since 1980 we can find it in its actual building which is declared to be a national monument of architecture.
Constantin Matasa together with his collaborators Radu and Ecaterina Vulpe, Vladimir and Hortensia Dumitrescu, Silvia Marinescu-Bilcu, Alexandru Vulpe, managed to create here in Piatra Neamt the biggest collection of neo-eneolithic art from the south-east of Europe. He also has an important part in the study of the Cucuteni Cultures.
