Celebrating the greatest Romanian storyteller of all time: “Ion Creangă” Festival in Târgu-Neamț

At the beginning of March, the community in Neamţ is proud to evoke the personality of Ion Creangă, the most beloved Romanian storyteller, at 186 years after his birth.

“Ion Creangă” Festival will take place between March 1-3 at “Ion Creangă” House of Culture in Târgu-Neamț and includes interesting and diverse activities that praise the literary significance of Creangă’s writings. Ion Creangă is the most beloved Romanian storyteller of all times, who enriched our national culture by evoking his wonderful childhood, admirably preserving the emotion of times past through literary works of great value and originality, of which “Memories from childhood” is widelu known outside the coutry’s borders.

In fact, his entire literary work is emblematic, and his outstanding personality as a man and writer entitles us to be proud that he was born in Humulesti, and spent both his childhood and adulthood in Neamț County.

“Ion Creangă” Festival includes contests, exhibitions, theatre performances, concerts, conferences, thus creating the perfect opportunity for contemporary artists, musicians, craftsmen and playwrights to bring to life, in an original manner, the world described by the storyteller, and his most renowned characters, so that the public may get to come close, once more, by the literary works and unique personality of Ion Creangă, as a writer.

Wednesday, the 1st of March, 2023

9 a.m. – National literary and artistic contest “Creangă at home”

4 p.m. – Painting exhibition – “Mărțișor” exhibition – Prof. Ioan F. Munteanu

 Thursday, the 2nd of March, 2023

9 a.m. – Exhibition with characters “Creangă’s World”, by Ionela Lungu

5 p.m. – “Childhood memories” – Theatre for children and adults, performed by “B.P. Hasdeu” National Theater from Cahul, Republic of Moldova

Friday, the 3rd of March, 2023

9 a.m. – “Living Candles – Survivors and Confessors of Contemporary Romanian Orthodoxy” – Exhibition by visual artist Aida Șușter Boțan

5 p.m. – Opening concert of the “Bazil Anastasescu” Choir in Târgu-Neamț

Literary-religious conference led by priest Vasile Ioana; presented by Dan Negru.

During the festivities, the public is presented with a diverse range of activities for all tastes and ages. So, we invite you to discover the artistic, literary and spiritual heritage of Ion Creangă, the storyteller who managed to preserve and pass on the sweet Moldavian speech, humor and genuine joy of childhood, which is beautifully reflected in all of his writings. The event is also a good opportunity to visit the many tourist attractions in and around Târgu-Neamt.

“Ion Creangă” Festival is an event organized by Neamț County Council, in partnership with Târgu-Neamț Local Council and “Ion Creangă” House of Culture in Târgu-Neamț. The event takes place between 1-3 March, 2023, at the House of Culture in Târgu-Neamț, the town nearby the beautifully flowing River Ozana, and also the town where the amazing Neamţ Fortress can be found.
