Neamţ customs and traditions proudly displayed at “Romanian National Day in Cyprus”
Hundreds of Romanians from Nicosia and Paphos were happy to attend in the celebration of “Romanian National Day in Cyprus”, between the 30th of November and the 4th of December, 2022, during the festive event organized by the EMBASSY OF ROMANIA in the Republic of Cyprus.
The enthusiastic artists of “Floricică de la Munte” Folk Ensemble, part of “Carmen Saeculare” Centre for Culture and Arts in Neamţ***, won the hearts of the public with their artistic programs. Our conationals form diaspora were rejoiced and trembled with delight when listening to the patriotic songs and witnessed the winter holidays customs and traditions, while the representatives of the foreign embassies got the chance to know, up close, the traditional clothes and dances, the beautiful carols and, not least, the holiday customs: the Plow, Sorcova, Steaua, the Bear and Goat dances.
The events dedicated to the Romanian National Day in Cyprus started with a reception at the Royal Hall, the oldest theatre in Nicosia. During the next two days, the Romanian communities in Nicosia and Paphos had the joy of attending several artistic performances, which they welcomed with great enthusiasm, stating that the beautiful music and dances took them back in time, in their own childhood, and at the same time relieved their homesickness. Many people in the audience sang the well-known patriotic songs along with our beloved artists.
The events also enjoyed participation of the representatives of the Cypriot Government, the clergy, personalities of the academic, cultural and business environment, representatives of diplomatic missions, consular offices and cultural institutes.
His Excellency Dan Mihalache, the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Cyprus, heartily thanked the artists of “Floricică de la Munte” Folk Ensemble and the partners from Neamţ County for the performances and said it was a real pleasure and honour to see that the event gathered such a large number of Romanians, eager to remember and relive their customs and traditions.
A Bilateral event Romania – Cyprus was also oranized, during which dances and songs from both cultures were performed, highlighting the specificity of each nation, thus the occasion represents another step taken to further strengthen the cultural cooperation and economic affairs between the two countries.
