Even before the bitter cold subsided, on a clear October day, the “Sea between the Mountains” in Neamț was captured in images, an adventure on and under water, “a meeting with gills monsters and concrete giants”, a nautical getaway with fish recipes, in a report made on TVR Iași.

“Over a billion cubic meters of water make Izvorul Muntelui the largest accumulation lake on the inland rivers in Romania. A concrete giant is controlling its rage”. The construction of the Bicaz Dam lasted for 10 years long (1950-1960)

More than 15,000 people, specialists, workers and political prisoners worked to build the dam, and more than 18,000 people were forced to move their homes from where the lake Izvorul Muntelui is now. To sum up, 22 villages on the Bistrița Valley were relocated before the construction of the concrete wall, with a height of 127 meters, which ranks it on the third place among the highest dams in the country and ninth in Europe.

Water, mountains, seagulls and the Sun, what could be more pleasant and relaxing than discovering this wonderful place in Neamț and enjoying tasty recipes, right in the middle of the impressive nature?!

Once you are in the area of the lake Izvorul Muntelui, you can enjoy kayak, boat, pedal boat rides or you can go aboard the Reșița boat, the oldest in the Bicaz port, as you will be able to see in the video.

The lake impresses you by its greatness, the fairytale landscapes that surround it, the image of Ceahlău massif that reflects itself in the water during the sunny days, the Baicului or Poiana Largului area that is particularly picturesque and also the Poiana Teiului viaduct. All of the above are some of the most beautiful places in Neamț County.

In summer, the kayak lake tour is organized and Bicaz Kayak Fest takes place annually, a large event on the lake from which you can watch images in the report made on TVR Iași.
