The beginnings of the Public Library in Roman were modest. It all began with a donation from a philanthropist named George Radu Melidon. Born on May 31, 1831, George Radu Melidon was a representative of the intellectual elite in Roman, a veritable scholar, publicist and teacher, mentor of education, who brought honor to his hometown. In 2015, the library celebrated 130 years since its establishment. Nowadays, the library has its headquarters in what locals know as “Ioachim Mansion”, a building listed as historical monument of local interest in Neamț County, code NT-II-m-B-10694.
