Şugău Gorges
Located in the immediate vicinity of Bicaz Gorges, Şugăului Gorges is one of the most valuable protected areas both in the Carpathians Mountains and in Europe, due to its unique landscape, geology, karst, flora and fauna. They form a wild-looking rocky area, with canyon-like appearance, on some 350m long area, along which there is also a row of waterfalls.
Inside the protected area, various scientific research activities, mountain and ecological education, hiking and climbing, cave exploration and trekking are available.
Leisure: Via Ferrata “Astragalus”, the longest Via Ferrata route in Romania – 700 m length of the main route. Tourists can choose between five climbing routes, with varying degrees of difficulty (A/B; C; C/D). The arrival is on Turnul Mare Peak (altitude of 1000m), with a level difference of about 285m. Travelling the main route takes between 90 and 150 minutes, and the minimum age for participants is 8 years old for light trails.
