BISON LAND from Neamţ County as seen by 9 photography enthusiasts

Vânători-Neamţ Natural Park is the only place in Europe where tourists can see the bison, the largest land animal on the continent, in three habitat types: in freedom, in the forests of the park, inside “Dragoş Vodă” Carpathian Wildlife and Bisons Reserve, and also in semi-freedom, in the acclimatization enclosure

Located in the north of Neamţ County, almost bordering Suceava County, Vânători Neamţ Natural Park extends along communes Agapia, Bălţăteşti, Crăcăoani, and Vânatori-Neamţ communes, and also a part of Târgu Neamţ town. BISON LAND encompasses the eastern slope of Stânişoarei Mountains, in the East of the Oriental Carpathians, covering a significant area of River Ozana (Neamţu) and River Cracău’s basins.

Vânători-Neamţ Natural Park is an oasis of peace and beautiful scenery, whose unique charm of the places has been captured by the participants in the second edition of the project “Discover Neamţ Land” photography Event, project launched and organized by Neamț County Council, 18-23 December, 2019.

Vânători-Neamţ Natural Park was also the film set for shooting two of the most well-known and beloved historical films in the Romanian cinematography, namely  “Jderi Brothers” and “Stephen the Great – The battle in Vaslui, 1475”.

BISON LAND in Neamţ County, included in Top 100 Sustainable Destinations worldwide


The importance and attractiveness of BISON LAND as a tourist destination has increased significantly over the past years, as is became worldwide known and sought after by a large number of both national and foreign visitors. 2019 was the third consecutive year when BISON LAND has been included in Top 100 Sustainable Destinations worldwide, a global contest organized by Green Destinations in partnership with other 20 international organizations working in the field of sustainable tourism. It is important to state that it is the only tourist destination in Romania which received such an official certification.


“It is an extremely valuable award for us to receive, which stands for both acknowledging our efforts for promoting sustainable tourism in the areas, as well as giving us access behind the scenes of sustainable tourism development worldwide. This recognition comes as a result of our community members working together to promote and enhance our culture, traditions, people, in a responsible and sustainable way “noted Geanina FEDELEŞ, president of BISON LAND Association.


The distinction was awarded during a ceremony organized in Mali Losinj, Croatia, in October 2019. in Mali Losinj is also an area included in Top 100 Sustainable Destinations worldwide. The global leaders in the field are to be selected from among the competitors and receive their award in a special ceremony which will be part of ITB Berlin 2020.


But Vânători-Neamţ Natural Park is more than a bison reserve. Stretching on 76602 acres, of which 64247 acres forestry fund, the park encompasses remarkable cultural and historical values partly highlighted on the way.

In addition to the bisons, the visitors can also observe, in their natural habitats, rare specimens of deer, brown bear, wild boar, fox, squirrel, wild cat, and badger.

Vânători-Neamţ Natural Park is situated in the ”spiritual heart” of Neamţ County, a renowned area for the orthodox monasteries scattered in a beautiful forestry landscape: Agapia, Văratec, Neamţ, Secu, Sihăstria sau Sihla. Also here, tourists can follow treatments of rheumatic, dermatological, respiratory diseases, asthenic neurosis as well as treatments with: ultrasounds, hot tub baths, galvanic baths, medical gymnastics at Bălţăteşti Resort and Oglinzi Resort.

Three natural reservations, shrouded in legend, welcome the visitor: the Cooper Woods -hornbeam forest- (Romanian “Codrii de Aramă”), the Silver Forest -birch forest- (Romanian “Pădurea de argint”), and the Emerald Forest -oak forest- (Romanian “Pădurea de Smarald”), not ot mention Dumbrava Oak Reserve and “Dragoş Vodă” Reservation of Bisons and Carpathian Fauna.
