Piatra Neamţ Drama Festival
From September 18 till October 2, 2019, you are all invited to attend the festival!
The 31st edition of Piatra Neamț Drama will delight the audience with valuable and unique theatrical productions between September 18 and October 2, 2019. The topic of the current edition of the Festival is an invitation to meditate, critically and ironically, on success stories and stories about success of the society, nowadays and in the recent past. What does individual success vs. success of a community (be it a group or a nation) mean? Why, during certain historical moments, social frustrations needed to be compensated by inventing heroic stories about ourselves? Can one live and create, outside the success – failure dichotomy, in a world where everyone is trying to sell as profitable as possible what he has to sell, while the performing arts market itself is an important area on this global map? How vulnerable are we in this context, how did we get here, and which are the ways out? And what place is left for risk, experiment, critical thinking? Many success stories of nations, and even of individuals, are constructed today, the same as yesterday, in conflict with the existing difference, with “the others”.
The organizers thought of the festival as a meeting-point for various generations of artists and spectators, for theatre people from different parts of Europe, for challenging experiences and perspectives, for theatre and other arts (movie, music, dance, visual arts). Continuing last year’s drive that expanded the Festival in Târgu Neamț, some of the selected performances will also be staged, this year, in Roman.
29 theatre shows | 7 countries | 4 concerts | 5 workshops | 4 book launches | 2 documentary film screenings | 1 jury of high school students | 24 sessions of discussion with the public
Continuing the tradition already established, the
festival proposes its audience with a selection of contemporary plays that
discuss topics of interest for nowadays’ society, documentary theatre,
performances directed by young people (under 30 years), artistic projects with a
strong educational tint (workshops for spectators of all ages, shows directed
by professionals in collaboration with teenagers), shows for children and young
audiences.
Also, Youth
Theatre is glad to announce, during the Festival, its latest premiere: “FRONTAL”.
The performance intends to revisit “The Story of a Lazy Man” by Ion Creangă
(1878). The show follows a script by Geanina Cărbunariu, who also directed it.
The 2019 edition of the festival focuses on interdisciplinary events (dance shows, concerts, film screening, performance installations), while the international dimension of the festival gains scale. The audience can enjoy seven performances by artists and theater companies from France, Germany, Republic of Moldavia, Poland, Slovakia , Spain, and Turkey.
