Lake Izvorul Muntelui and Bicaz Dam
Impressive and picturesque areas in Neamţ County
Located at the foothill of Ceahlău Massif, Lake Izvorul Muntelui is one of the 5 most picturesque lakes on the territory of Neamț County and also the largest reservoir arranged on River Bistriţa. It ranks first in terms of size in the country. Due to its location, between mountain peaks, the lake is widely known as “the sea between the mountains” and is 35km long. Lake Izvorul Muntelui is an extremely attractive area for tourists everywhere. The wide surface of the still mountain lake stretches behind Bicaz Dam of 127m high, resembling a concrete mountain parapet.
The “weight” dam, build according to the design conducted by Eng. Dimitrie Leonia, is the largest of its kind on the inland rivers in Romania. In terms of hight, it ranks third in Romania and ninth in Europe.
The surroundings make up an impressive natural scenery, where the nature perfectly combined the mountain with the lake. The port arranges on the shore is the starting point for boat rides, pedal boat rides, kayaking and other various water sports.
