Ion Creangă Memorial Museum from Neamț County
Ion Creangă
Memorial Museum
The museum, organised in 1951, is located in the village of Humuleşti, where the brilliant storyteller, who humbly described himself as a “lump of dust,” came to this world on 1 March 1837. The house where the great writer was born and spent his childhood had been rebuilt in 1830, by his paternal grandfather (Petrea Ciubotariul), is now an authentic evidence of folk architecture.
The museum illustrates a comprehensive universe of mid-nineteenth century rural life universe – along with the many artefacts and household tools – the picturesque flavour of the era overwhelms visitors from their first steps in the yard.
Moreover, the exhibits of this memorial house, one of the most frequently visited museums in the country, are also loaded with the aura of recollections of this outstanding son of a land imbibed with history and spirituality. The minuteness of the restoration works considered not only the general aspect of the house and household, but details such as the whitewashed stove, the famous wool threads the cats would play with, the porch and the yard which Nică would leave embarking on his childhood adventures…
