Routes in Neamt County: Targu Neamt – Pipirig – Durău
We propose a holiday route for those who visit our county, on a dream itinerary, departing from Targu Neamt to Durău, the route during which you will discover many tourist attractions. So, being yourself in Targu Neamt cross the bridge over the water of Ozana at Humuleşti, to visit in about two hours, Ion Creanga Memorial House and Ion Creanga Theme Park from Humuleşti. Back in town you can go to the Museum of History and Ethnography, on Stefan cel Mare Street no. 37, an architectural monument building, that welcomes you to permanent exhibition about the very interesting history a of these places. Taking heed yourself thereto from here to Neamt Fortress, you can stop at Veronica Micle Memorial House, to visit the exhibition which captures the moments of life and works of the poet, there being a copy of plaster mortuary mask of Mihai Eminescu. We go to Neamt Fortress, recently restored, citadel entered into chronicles and legends and which guards Ozana Valley since 1395. You can lunch at the foot of the Citadel and still there you will meet artisans who exhibit folk art creations and great craftsmanship. Then, on the way to Neamt Monastery, arrived in Vânători, you can make a small detour to access the village Lunca to see the ethnographic museum organized in a peasant house, in which It is arranged an exhibition comprising about 3000 pieces made by wood carver master, Vasile Gaman. When you reach Neamt Monastery, also known as Romanian Orthodox Jerusalem, one of the most famous monastic settlements in Moldova, declared a historical monument, we recommend you visit the monastery museum that preserves a large collection of great historical and artistic value. Once you’ve filled your soul and eyes of wonderful things, remember the adage traveler befits the road, because you have to visit the Mihail Sadoveanu Memorial House, whose exhibition is accompanied on musical background, by unmistakable voice of the great writer. You can stop too at the Hermitage Vovidenia, wich is nearby from several centuries as a witness to the love of God. A few kilometers further on you will encounter Dragos Voda Zoo, one of the four protected areas included in the Natural Park Vanatori – Neamt. You can visit the Zimbru Museum, Temporary exhibition Black and White, Exhibition Crafts and traditions in the land of bison, exhibition Bison in Neamt County. On the road to Durau you can visit Secu Monastery, built in 1602 (its museum keeps manuscripts, embroideries, tapestries), Sihastria Monastery founded in 1655, famous and because in its vicinity is the Cave of Saint Theodora, then Petru Voda Monastery built in latter years by Justinian Pârvu, place of pilgrimage for thousands of faithful. Once you have worshiped at these holy monasteries, passing their thresholds, continue to resort Durău, through Pipirig commune, the village where there is a chapel built around 1680, by monks from the monastery Neamt in which will be established after 1700, the persecuted Romanians from Transylvania who crossed the mountains, settling down here, and among them numbering the ascendants of Ion Creangă. Crossing the Viaduct Paiana Largului, to the right, you can admire the Piatra Teiului, out of the depths of the earth, a natural monument full of sarmatic fossils. Arriving finally at Durău, a tourist resort situated at an altitude of 780m, you can visit the Monastery Durău whose church was painted by Nicolae Tonitza. You can climb to Fantanele Chalet (1235m) on a route of about 2 hours, or Duruitoarea Falls (1250m), also two hours, taking fresh air, make some movement, to admire the splendor of the Ceahlău Mountain.
