Monastic Museum of Văratec Monastery
In Văratec Monastery Museum, founded in 1960, are preserved a large number of authentic charters, such as acts of donation and strengthening, religious books, manuscripts and old books used in the monastery, as well as books of religious literature. Many precious jewels, embroidery, silver objects illustrating life held inside the monastery, are highlighted in the collection of objects of historical and artistic significance that we can admire in the halls of the museum. Thus, in the halls of the museum are stored objects of worship in gilded silver, or gold, wonderful old icons, along with beautiful embroidery and weaved carpets by hardworking hands of nuns, some in gold thread, not to mention the priestly garments exhibited. Visiting the museum, we can also admire the collection of icons and crosses worked between centuries XVI and XVII century, gilded silver, Gospels adorned with enameled icons and gilded silver, all forming a heritage with historical, cultural and artistic value. Note that in the monastery’s museum are exposed jewels belonging to other monasteries in Moldova, brought here for safekeeping: old wooden icons painted in tempera, carved or painted wooden crosses, chalices, Panagia and candlesticks, silver plated objects adorned with medallions.
