Wooden church Grinţieş
Grinţieş City is in the northwest of Neamt County, 80 km from Piatra Neamt and 56 km from Targu Neamt. Access path to Grinţieş is DJ155F, which branches from DN15 and connects to Durău resort.
Grintiesul Mare village is first mentioned in 1794 in “The church diptych from Grinţieş”, having the shape of a triptych written and painted on maple wood, preserved in the altar. Toponym Grinţieş is due Die Grentze a German word which means border, in this place been set up frontier guard picketsr and customs because the Habsburg Empire stretched up here.
The church was built in the years 1792-1794 by Transylvanian Romanians, who crossed the Carpathians to escape religious and national policy of the Empire. Construction of the church is from fir log and has cruciform plan. Architecture keeps rooms characteristic of Orthodox churches: porch, narthex, nave and altar. The ceiling has a spherical cap of eight sides. In the southern part is located the porch, above this being the bell tower. Both the exterior and interior, the church is lined with planks of fir. The pews are carved of maple wood. The rood screen keeps the original icons, especially royal icons, The Savior Icon, The Mother of God icon, the icon of dedication Sunday of All Saints and icon of St. Nicholas.
The Icons of deacon`s doors are since 1835. The original painting of the iconostasis and of large icons is executed in oil on wood, keep it in good condition. Among the religious books that were kept we remember caldron, printed at Râmnic in 1781, Liturgy from the year 1794, Gospel from 1826, and another Missal from the year 1860.
Grinţieş wooden church is a monument of architecture and is found on the list of historical monuments.
