Craftsmen Maria Mihalachi
The custom according to wich the bride had to do for dowry, among other home textiles and carpets made with her hands, contributed to the perpetuation of tradition in craftsmanship of weaving.
In commune Bălţăteşti from Neamt County, this trade is carried on by craftsman Maria Mihalachi. Worthy continuator of this popular art, along with several other women from the village, she puts in woven objects not only traditional patterns specific to the area where she was born and lives, but also their own imagination. Performs various fabrics with cotton warp and weft of wool, with abstract patterns thought by her, she creates unique models of unquestionable aesthetic value. For example, moldavian lăicer (peasant carpet wool, long and narrow, woven, usually striped, which is laid down or put on the walls.) has as geometric patterns, symbols of the line of life, doubled with solar symbols; the carpet weaving the tree of life is symmetrically arranged so to symbolize good and evil; moldovian carpet layed down, typically to Neamt area, has colorful ornaments with traditional patterns that delights the eye.
Also, tapestries and rugs crafted and braided with great carefulness, using hook in colors white, blue, red and black, amaze by the simplicity decorations. All this has brought fame to the craftsmen in the county and the country where she is present at fairs and exhibitions.
