Days of Neamţ Fortress

IMG_1908resizeNeamţ Fortress is one of the main medieval monuments in Romania, located close to the high Pleşului Peak. In time, the fortress stood tall, watching over Moldova and Siret river valleys, but also over the gateway to Transylvania, becoming one of the major Fortress of Moldavia, because of the many works of consolidation conducted during the reign of Stephen the Great.

The building was declared a historical monument in 1866.For the conservation and preservation of the Neamţ Fortress in the best possible conditions, were conducted over different time restoration and consolidation. The latest works made ​​before 2009 and financed under PHARE Programme have changed the image of the fortress, highlighting its tumultuous past, greatness and worth, now presented to the public in a attractive and modern manner.

For some time now, at the fortress is held annually a popular celebration for locals and visitors alike, entitled The Days of Neamţ Fortress, which this year reached its sixteenth edition. The event, held between 4-6 July, and is organized by the Târgu Neamţ City Council and Neamţ County Museum Complex, this time sparked great interest in music and dance performances supported by “Carmen Saeculare” Center for Culture and Arts in Neamţ, the art exhibition “Artists of the city”, which is the fifth edition, but especially by the performances of medieval music, classical music and light theater performances, old combat demonstration wearing vintage equipment. vintage ladies and knights parades in medieval music arrangements, under the name MedievArtFest first medieval festival in Târgu Neamţ. The latter was supported by the School of Medieval Music from Timişoara, “Scene” Theatre from Târgu Mureş, Bucium band from Bucharest, “ScHema” animated band, Lupus Dacus Band from Arad, Wolf Knights from Târgu Mureş, capturing all the attention and applause of the audience. Also present to the festival were craftsmen from Neamţ County who presented their authentic products, inside a Crafts Fair. “Magic Pot” Culinary Festival was also organized, to the delight of the participants. Each of the evening  ended with a “Bonfires night”, when  participants left to their homes carrying with light torches.

Days of Neamţ Fortress is nowadays one of the main attractions of Neamţ County, in terms of events and festivals, which we highly advise you to attend, if you happen to be around Târgu Neamţ.
