510 years since the death of Stephen the Great

DSC_8711resizeThis year, on July 2nd, 2014, we celebrated 510 years since the death of Stephen the Great who was the ruler of Moldova for 47 years.The qualities of the politician man, strategist and diplomat, his actions to safeguard the integrity of the country and culture development initiatives led to admiration of the contemporaries, becaming a popular hero. Pope Sixtus IV himself , (1414 – 1484) called him “Athleta Christi” (the athlete of Christ), and people sang him in ballads.

In Piatra Neamt, on July 2nd,was held a symposium dedicated to stepheniene foundations. The Meeting “Stepheniene foundations in Neamţ and surroundings” was held in the Hall “Calistrat Hogaş” Neamt County Council, marking 22 years since the canonization and the celebration of 510 years since the passing away of St. Stephen The Great.

In order to meetthis commemoration, in TheBell Towerof Stephen TheGreat insidethe Royal Court,openedapermanentexhibitionCityresidentsandour guests, tourists from home andabroad,can admire: on the ground floor,old and new treasures of the royal church; on the first floor, collages andphotopanelsdepictingovertwo centuriesof the Bell Tower history and his surroundings; on the second floor, given that besideschurchwas functioning thefirst school intown, a playgroundwithliturgical books-manualsof the time, school programs andantiques was arranged; to the next level, among other exhibitscan be seen the bellmadein Brasov, at the endof the eighteenth century, by old town Piatra Neamt citizenscontribution.
