Romania’s Cycling Tour crossed Neamt County
Between June 30 and July 06 2013 took placed the 50th edition of the international competition “Romania’s Cycling Tour”. Tuesday, July 3 was the third stage of the competition with a total length of 198 km, on the route Bicaz – Piatra Neamt – Roman – Targu Frumos – Harlau – Bottosani. As a result the tour crossed through Bicaz and Piatra Neamt.
In Bicaz the cycling caravan was welcomed with the traditional bread and salt by Nicolae Salagean, the mayor of Bicaz. He was accompanied by few girls dressed in traditional costumes and before the start of the race he gave the white shirt to George Bouglas (Greece), the red shirt to Abel Kenyeres (Hungary) for sprinters, the yellow shirt to Vitaliy Buts (Ukraine) for the overall first place, the blue shirt to Oleg Bedros (Tusnad Cycling Team) for best Romanian cycler and the green shirt to the best climber, Gonzali de la Parte from Spain. Another award was given to Constantin Ciocan who at the age of 70 years held the longest participation in this competition.
Some of the 109 cyclers are part of semi-professional teams from Holland, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Hungary and Ecuador. From Romania there were 17 cyclers distributed on different teams from Romania and other countries. The average speed was 60 km/hour on the road from Bicaz to Piatra Neamt. In Piatra Neamt was also an intermediate sprint on the route Petru Movila Street – Decebal – Republicii – Stefan cel Mare Plaza – Mihai Viteazu.
