Pilgrimage for Easter at the monasteries from Neamt County

It is a sensitive period when many Christians manifest their belief by going on pilgrimages to monasteries. The monasteries from Neamt County are visited in this period of time by so many pilgrims that come here in search of peace.

Monasteries are places of high spiritual values that offer food for the soul to pilgrims. A journey in Neamt County will offer you the possibility to visit these famous monasteries and to admire the religious Moldavia architecture.

Each monastery is unique in its own way. Neamt Monastery is the oldest, dating from the XIV century. Secu Monastery has over 500 years and it’s also an architectural monument. Sihastria Monastery is over 300 years old and is also well known for fathers Ilie Cleopa, Paisie Olaru and Ioanichie Balan. Agapia Monastery is the only monastery from Romania that has also the name of “Christian love” and it’s famous because of the paintings made here by Nicolae Grigorescu. Sihla Hermitage is known for the life of St Teodora that lived in a cave near the hermitage.

Varatec Monastery is well known for its priceless collection or art and religious objects as well for the tomb of Veronica Micle that is located nearby. Pangarati Monastery was built in 1560 and has a unique architecture of the old church where you’ll see not one but two churches built one on top of the other in the same building. Durau Monastery is known for the interior paintings made by Nicolae Tonitza and his apprentices.
