The Yew Reservation from Pangarati
In Pangarati commune, on the left side of the creek with the same name there is a yew reservation of 1.5 hectares, one of the three of this kind from Romania. The reservation contains rare yew trees with ages over 80 years together with other trees like pine, spruce, juniper, beech and hornbeam.
The reservation was declared an area of local interest through a decision of Neamt County Council in 23.12.1994 and a natural protected area through a law from 06.03.200. The reservation is currently administrated by Ecomoldavia association. Until recently the reservation wasn’t properly marked that represented a danger for the yew trees.
The non-governmental association Ecomoldavia implemented a project called “Through yew – on the trail! I can do it also! I can protect the yew”. The purpose of the project is to protect and promote the reservation, to correctly mark the entire area and to organize a thematic touristic trail.
The yew reservation from Pangarati, Neamt County
The project was launched in April 2011 and will be finalized in September 2011. Up until now they’ve managed to establish the boundaries of the reservation, they’ve cleaned the area, marked the boundary trees and they’ve also identified valuable yew trees that will be placed on the touristic thematic trail.
The final point of this project will be to organize the thematic trail and to open it for tourists and to also organize a visiting bureau of the reservation.
