Autumn thrills us with great sceneries every year. There are places where nature seems to outdone itself, achieving images that go beyond any imagination. One of these places is Cheile Sugaului (which in translation would be Sugau Gorge) from Neamt County, a rocky area that will impress you for sure.

Cheile Sugaului is located in the upper part of Bicaz Chei village, on the left side of Bicaz creek, right at the entrance in Cheile Bicazului. You can reach Cheile Sugaului by following the trail that enters in Cheile Sugaului – Munticelu Reservation and that will take you to Ecolog Chalet. Each autumn the trees look like they’re on fire. The sun sends its warm rays to the branches and further down to the trail that takes us to the 350 m gorge.

This canyon was used in the old days by the locals as a shortcut to reach Barnadu village. They’ve built a wooden bridge along the gorge that was a testimonial of local architecture. Now that bridge is no more and in order to admire the beauty of Cheile Sugaului you have to make a small detour and to go by Ecolog Chalet.

The gorge is narrow and the sun never enters here: a cool breeze is in the air. The whirling waters of Sugau creek come down with a big noise. From the stone walls small drops of water are dripping down on a carpet made out of colorful leaves.

Cheile Sugaului is a place less known by tourists that usually stop at the Ecolog Chalet. The breathtaking beauty of this place is amplified by the warm colors of autumn. For the few that visit it, the feeling of being there is special: it’s like a rare beauty that only few are able to see it.
