The Church St Mihail is not the first Catholic Church from Sabaoani. The first documentary mention of a wooden church in this place is made in the year 1741. Following the damages of time, the destructions that took place during the revolution from 1831 and because of the rising number of people living in this village, father Augustin Melis builts a new church somewhere in the middle of the XIX century.
The present days church was built by father Cajetan Liverotti which returns in the village and sees the need of a bigger church. This new church looks like the old Roman Basilicas meant for public meetings.
The building was made between 1898 and 1902. The last renovation of the church took place in the year 2000 under the supervision of father Toma Encuta. The church impresses by its sizes: 53,7 m in length, 22,7 m interior width and 15 m the inner height. The tower has a height of 45 m. the church has 4 altars: the main one is made out of white marble, two altars are made out of white mosaic and another portable altar made out of sculpted wood.
The church has more works of art inside of it, like the five statues sculpted in wood: “The heart of Jesus” and four representations of “Angeles in adoration”. All these statues were made by the Italian sculptor Ferdinand Stufflesser.
The church from Sabaoani has four big bells brought from Italy in 1973. The paintings were made between 1959 and 1963 by A. Bucataru, I. Martinas and I. Iacobescu. In the first and most important plane were painted the representations of the three archangels: Mihail, Gabriel and Rafael and on the dome there is the representation of the Coronation of St Mary. The rest of the church was painted in the year 1979 by the brothers Ludovic and Alexandru Miltaller.
